Aspen and Snowmass Transportation

Most visitors find that once they arrive in Aspen or Snowmass, they have little need for a car: 

  •  Extensive and frequent bus service is free in Aspen and Snowmass including free skier shuttle service to all four ski mountains.
     
  • RFTA provides commuter bus service from Aspen to Glenwood Springs, inner city service in Aspen and Glenwood Springs, ski shuttle service to the four Aspen Skiing Company ski areas, and a variety of other seasonal services.

  • Parking is limited at all four ski mountains.
  • Many destinations - hotels, shops and restaurants - are within comfortable walking distance.
  • Taxis and limos provide service to and from the airport and virtually any other destination in the Aspen/Snowmass area.
  • Many of the larger lodges provide courtesy van service to or from the airport and around town.

From Denver Aspen is 180 miles or 3-1/2 hours via I-70 west to Glenwood Springs, connecting to Highway 82 East, direct to Aspen. Another scenic route from Denver is I-70 West to 91 South through Leadville, to 24 South, west onto Highway 82 over Independence Pass (open only during the warm weather months) into Aspen.

From Grand Junction Aspen is an easy 2-1/2 hours east on I-70 connecting to Highway 82 East in Glenwood Springs. From the Eagle County Airport, the drive to Aspen is only 80 miles or 1-1/2 hours via I-70 West to Highway 82.
